Silver Surfer’s Day

Today is Silver Surfer’s Day, part of the national campaign to promote digital inclusion for older people here in the UK.

This campaign is part of the programme of an organisation called Digital Unite who say;

“We know digital inclusion matters. Currently a third of all UK adults don’t have good enough digital skills, an estimated half of those are older people. That’s 10m people.  A society where older people are cut off because they lack digital skills is not a healthy happy place. For anyone.”

Hundreds of free training events are taking part all over the country, and IT guides are available to download from the website.  There are also competitions such as ‘Tell Us a Joke’ , and participants can also get interactive online by sharing their photosvia flickr, their experiences via the blog, or even uploading their videos on the Silver Surfer’s YouTube channel.
